Find a Recording Team to Help on Your Next Project -- Part 1
Having spent a lot of time recording alone, it’s easy to see the benefits of trying to do it all yourself. But there’s also a pretty glaring problem too. You don’t have a team. Through the recording experience, there are so many roles that your team can play. I’d like to unpack the roles of the producer and the engineer in this post. But don’t worry, part two about the mixer and mastering engineer will be coming out in a couple of weeks.
The Engineer
A good engineer doesn’t just have mastery and years of experience around EQ and Compression, but they also see their equipment and ability as a tool to achieve the sound you’re searching for. Whether it’s listening to a reference and deciding the right microphone for a drum kit, or being able to smooth out inconsistencies with playing - a good engineer is an incredible team member to have.
The Producer
The producer has a hand in everything from the arrangement to the final product. They don’t necessarily mix (again, we’ll talk about the mixer in a couple of weeks), but they help get the artist’s vision across to the mixer. In reality, they are a sort of advocate for the artist to everyone else, making sure that the artist’s sound is taking the forefront. However, they are also sounding boards for the artist to make sure that the sound is current, relevant, and unique. On a larger scale, the producer also oversees budgets, manages personalities, and keeps the project moving forward in general.
At the heart of the recording studio is a team that, if running well, can produce great records that will outlast themselves. When you’re looking into your next project, come to Blue Sky Studios to be surrounded by a great team. It can seem easy to conquer on your own, but we guarantee you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the tools and abilities your team enables in your creativity to soar.
